OPPO K13 Launch Today: OPPO India is all set to launch the OPPO K13 today, April 21. Here’s what we already know about this upcoming phone –

OPPO K13: Processor

According to the company, the OPPO K13 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset, built on a power-efficient 4nm process, the first 6-series chip to be manufactured on TSMC’s advanced node. It is paired with the Adreno A810 GPU, LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage.

OPPO K13: Battery

The device is powered by a 7000mAh battery paired with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging. In just 5 minutes of charging, users can expect up to four hours of gaming, the company claimed. The device reaches 62 per cent in 30 minutes and a full charge in under an hour, it added.

OPPO K13: Display

It has a 6.67-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1200 nits of peak brightness. It has a Wet Touch Mode that allows the screen to remain responsive even with water or oil on the surface, said the official release.

“Whether it’s for gaming, streaming, shooting content, or staying connected on the move, the K13 offers the kind of OP experience typically associated with far more expensive phones,” the official release claimed.

What sets the K13 further apart?

What sets the K13 further apart, according to the company, is its advanced thermal management system. It boasts a 5,700mm² Vapor Chamber combined with a 6,000mm² graphite sheet, delivering flagship-grade cooling performance. This setup helps prevent performance throttling and lag due to heat buildup, ensuring smooth operation even during extended gaming sessions, it added. Such thermal efficiency is typically found in premium smartphones, but the K13 brings this high-end feature to the mainstream segment, it claimed.

OPPO K13: Expected Price

According to the company, the device will redefine smartphones under the Rs 20,000 segment.

Nepal’s leading private airline – Buddha Air – is set to resume Kathmandu-Kolkata flights after a gap of six years.

“Namaste Kolkata! The wait is almost over…stay tuned!” the airline wrote in a post on its social media handle, adding, “Kolkata coming soon.”

According to Nepal’s media reports, the airline plans to introduce its commercial lights to Kolkata by mid-July.

“We competed with Air India when we flew to this destination 6 years ago. Now that Air India has pulled out, we see a commercial opportunity and have decided to resume the flights,” Rupesh Shrestha, director of Sales and Marketing at Buddha Air, was quoted as saying by the Republica daily.

“The airline is actively working towards that end,” he added.

In 2019, Buddha Air operated three weekly flights on the route for nine months but discontinued the service as it had to incur a huge loss.

This time, the company plans to operate four weekly flights – the same frequency previously maintained by Air India.

The airline operates regular commercial flights to Varanasi and aims to expand to Guwahati, Lucknow, and other Indian destinations.

“We see strong potential for two-way trade and tourism in these destinations,” Shrestha said.

The Kathmandu-Kolkata flight takes 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Why Crypto Market Is Up Today? Bitcoin Price Surge Past $93K

The crypto market today is seeing gains as Bitcoin price surge above $93,000, triggering a wave of excitement across investors. The sudden surge has many asking — why is the crypto market up today? The answer lies in a powerful mix of political optimism, institutional inflows, and renewed risk appetite.

Trade Optimism and Institutional Inflows Drive Rally

U.S. President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made market-moving remarks hinting at potential relief in the U.S.-China trade war. Bessent called the current 145% tariffs “unsustainable” and suggested a de-escalation could be near. That was enough to boost investor confidence, not just in equities but also in risk-on assets like crypto.

Backing the momentum, Bitcoin spot ETFs saw $381 million in net inflows on Monday, the highest since January. The return of institutional money is a bullish signal, especially as MicroStrategy added another 6,500 BTC to its holdings — reinforcing long-term belief in Bitcoin.

SEC Shakeup, Altcoin Surge, But Caution Remains

Adding to the bullish sentiment, newly appointed SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has already dismissed several crypto enforcement cases. His pro-crypto stance is giving the industry fresh hope for a more innovation-friendly regulatory climate.

Meanwhile, Ethereum jumped above $1,700, Dogecoin surged 8.6%, and SUI spiked nearly 12%. Traditional markets also bounced back, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq recovering from recent losses.

However, the liquidity and new demand remain weak compared to past bull runs, according to CryptoQuant. Resistance zones could still trigger pullbacks, but for now, the rally has reignited crypto market momentum.

Thousands of teachers continue protest in Kolkata overnight, demand releasing list of untainted candidates

Thousands of teachers, whose services were terminated as a result of a Supreme Court order, continued their protest by laying a siege to the West Bengal School Service Commission headquarters overnight, demanding that the commission has to publish a segregated list containing the names of those found to be “untainted” and were recruited on the basis of merit.

The agitating teachers launched the indefinite sit-in outside the Acharya Sadan, the WBSSC headquarters, in Kolkata on Monday night, after the commission failed to release the list of untainted candidates and 2016 SSC qualifiers.

The Supreme Court on April 3 upheld the Calcutta High Court’s ruling that annulled over 25,000 appointments of teachers and non-teaching staff made by the WBSSC, stating that the entire selection process had been “vitiated and tainted” beyond resolution.

The Calcutta High Court on April 22, 2024 ordered the cancellation of the recruitment of 25,753 teachers and non-teaching staff in government and aided schools across the State by WBSSC in 2016.

After a meeting with some of the teachers who lost their jobs, State Education Minister Bratya Basu had said that the list of “deserving and undeserving” candidates would be published in two weeks. The teachers were expecting that the WBSSC would publish the list on Monday evening.

But when the commission didn’t release the list of untainted candidates, thousands of teachers began the sit-in outside its office, shouting the slogan “we want justice”.

A section of junior doctors, who were involved in the protest after RG Kar rape and murder case, went to WBSSC office to show solidarity with the teachers. A huge contingent of the Rapid Action Force was deployed at midnight.

The Education Minister said late Monday that legal experts had advised the commission against publishing the segregated list of untainted and tainted candidates as it would fail legal scrutiny.

Basu urged the agitating teachers to wait till the State Government files a review petition with the Supreme Court. “Please wait for the Government to file a review petition with the Supreme Court. We have to follow the guidelines,” he added.

Xfinity Mobile Adds Premium Unlimited Plan With Twice-Yearly Device Upgrades

How do you add more to “unlimited”? As carriers offer unlimited talk, text and data on their wireless plans, Xfinity Mobile’s answer is to launch a new Premium Unlimited plan that includes high-resolution streaming, 30GB of fast hotspot data per month and, for customers chasing the latest phones, the ability to upgrade devices twice per year.

The Premium Unlimited plan is available now. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll get.

More perks for Premium

The Premium Unlimited Plan, which costs $30 per line on top of required Xfinity Internet service, includes unlimited full-speed data. That’s a boost over the regular Unlimited plan, which throttles data speeds after 30GB.

For mobile hotspot usage, the Premium Unlimited plan includes 30GB of data before speeds are reduced. By comparison, the Unlimited plan offers only slower speeds, although both plans give you unlimited hotspot data so you won’t be cut off.

Also unique to the Premium Unlimited plan is 4K resolution video streaming (the Unlimited plan serves up only 480p standard resolution) and Xfinity Call Guard service for intercepting spam calls.

Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon’s network for 5G and 4G LTE cellular access, but also leans heavily on its installed base of home and business internet service with modems that double as public Wi-Fi hotspots. Both the Premium Unlimited and Unlimited plans feature WiFi PowerBoost, which can automatically hop onto a Wi-Fi connection and deliver faster speeds, up to 1GB, according to Xfinity.

The company states that more than 90% of mobile data traffic happens over Wi-Fi. If you’re connected at home (and your Xfinity service uses an XB7 or XB8 Gateway to route the data), your phone can get the faster speeds, even if you’re not paying for that level of bandwidth.

Stay on top of the newest phones

If you know someone who replaces their phone every year for the newest model, you can literally one-up them by being on the Premium Unlimited plan. The new Elite Upgrade option allows for twice-yearly phone upgrades with a “guaranteed new-device discount of up to $830 with an eligible trade-in,” according to the company.

For those switching from another carrier, Xfinity Mobile will pay up to $500 per line for as many as five lines to buy out existing contracts.

Dementia risk linked to blood pressure in new study

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is known to have a direct impact on heart attack and stroke risk — but a new study has revealed its surprising link to brain health.

In a large, randomized trial, researchers led by First Hospital of China Medical University discovered that “intensive blood pressure control” resulted in a 15% reduced dementia risk among participants and a 16% reduced risk of cognitive impairment.

The study included 33,995 people in rural China aged 40 or older who had “uncontrolled hypertension.”

7 BLOOD PRESSURE MISTAKES THAT COULD BE THROWING OFF YOUR READINGS

The participants were divided into two groups. One received “usual care,” while the other was assigned to “trained non-physician community healthcare providers” who prescribed “titrated antihypertensive medications.”

For the latter group, the medications helped them achieve a systolic blood pressure goal of <130 mm Hg and a diastolic blood pressure goal of <80 mm Hg, according to the study findings in Nature Medicine.

“The primary outcome of all-cause dementia was significantly lower in the intervention group than in the usual care group,” the researchers wrote.

They were also less likely to experience “serious adverse events.”

HEALTH BOOST AND DEMENTIA PREVENTION IN JUST 5 MINUTES A DAY

This was one of the first large-scale, randomized, controlled effectiveness trials to demonstrate a “significant reduction in all-cause dementia associated with lowering blood pressure,” the researchers concluded.

There were some limitations of the study, the article acknowledged, including the absence of baseline and follow-up cognitive assessments.

Dr. Bradley Serwer — an interventional cardiologist and chief medical officer at VitalSolution, an Ingenovis Health company that offers cardiovascular and anesthesiology services to hospitals — said this study presents an “intriguing approach” to addressing dementia in individuals with uncontrolled hypertension.

JUST 5 MINUTES OF EXERCISE COULD REDUCE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, STUDY FINDS

“Unlike studies performed in the United States, this study employed non-physicians to significantly reduce blood pressure in rural China through a ‘cluster’ blinding method,” Ohio-based Serwer, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.

Dementia concept

It would be beneficial to include baseline cognitive assessments of the patients and to identify the prevalence of Alzheimer’s dementia within the communities, one doctor noted. (iStock)

“While the study can be subject to scrutiny, it raises a pertinent question: How crucial is modification of cardiovascular risk factors in the development of dementia?”

The primary medications used in the study to lower blood pressure were calcium channel blockers and angiotensin receptor blockers, Serwer noted.

“These commonly prescribed medications have been independently associated with a reduced risk of dementia, irrespective of the magnitude of blood pressure reduction they achieve,” he said.

“This raises the possibility that the lower rates of dementia observed may be attributed to other beneficial effects of the medications rather than solely to blood pressure reduction.”

To confirm the findings, Serwer said it would be beneficial to include baseline cognitive assessments of the patients and to identify the prevalence of Alzheimer’s dementia within the communities.

“The most significant takeaway from this study is the profound importance of addressing blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking and sedentary lifestyles,” the cardiologist said.

Inmates At This Prison Can Buy Pizza, Ice Cream Using Monopoly-Style Money

HMP Oakwood, the largest prison in England located in Featherstone, Staffordshire, has launched Britain’s first in-prison supermarket. In collaboration with food retailer Iceland, the prison now features a supermarket where inmates can buy branded treats like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and popular Chicago Town pizzas, which are not available in the regular prison canteen, reported The Times.

What sets this store apart is its currency system. Inmates use Monopoly-style money earned through good behaviour at the Category C prison. The incentive scheme allows them to earn up to 25 pounds (around Rs 2800) per week, reported the Daily Mail. What’s more, prices at this prison branch are lower than those at Iceland’s high-street outlets.

The in-prison supermarket is part of a larger initiative to recreate a shopping centre environment inside a massive warehouse within the jail, dubbed the ‘marketplace’. Alongside Iceland, it features a coffee shop named Hopeful Grounds run by inmate baristas, a fresh produce stall with fruits and veggies, and a leisure store called JP Sports.

The marketplace is designed to help inmates transition more smoothly into society after release, with some also employed in the store as part of their rehabilitation. The program was the brainchild of HMP Oakwood’s head of employability Carly Balis, who helps identify inmates suitable for a role at the in-prison Iceland branch.

HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, Charlie Taylor, has praised the project as “unusually effective” and last year named HMP Oakwood the number one prison in England. He called it “the best prison I have seen in my time as Chief Inspector.”

China will extend key unemployment insurance policies through 2025 to help companies retain jobs and support workers in enhancing their skills, authorities announced Tuesday.

The announcement was made through a circular jointly issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Taxation Administration, outlining measures to help enterprises maintain stable employment.

Until the end of 2025, companies that do not lay off employees or minimize layoffs will continue to receive refunds of a certain percentage of unemployment insurance premiums paid in the previous year, according to the policy.

To help workers improve their skills, the extended policy relaxes eligibility requirements and expands coverage for skills-upgrading subsidies.

These measures also ensure continued provision of basic living allowances, including unemployment benefits, basic medical insurance coverage and support for older unemployed individuals.

China has set a target of maintaining the surveyed urban unemployment rate at around 5.5 percent in 2025 while aiming to create over 12 million new urban jobs this year. The average surveyed urban unemployment rate stood at 5.3 percent in the first quarter of 2025.
