Realty firm Prestige Estates Projects Ltd will launch multiple housing projects across major cities this fiscal year with an estimated revenue of more than ₹42,000 crore, as it looks to expand business to capitalise on strong consumer demand.
According to its latest investors presentation, the Bengaluru-based firm plans to launch as many as 25 residential projects having 44.80 million sq ft of developable area, with an estimated gross development value of ₹42,120 crore, in this financial year.
These projects are lined up in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Goa.
During the 2024-25 financial year, the company launched a lesser number of projects due to delays in regulatory approvals.
Prestige Estates launched 26.28 million square feet during the last fiscal year, with a combined gross development value of ₹26,222.8 crore.
Last year, the company’s sales bookings or pre-sales were affected.
Prestige Estates sales bookings during the 2024-25 fiscal declined 19 per cent to ₹17,023.1 crore, “reflecting the impact of deferred launches amid approval delays”, the company had said in April.
The company was not able to achieve the targeted sales bookings of ₹24,000 crore last fiscal.
Sales volume for 2024-25 stood at 12.58 million square feet, down 38 per cent y-o-y (year-on-year).
Total units sold stood at 5,919 last fiscal.
The average realisation for apartments, villas, and commercial products rose to ₹14,113 per square feet, an impressive 36 per cent increase y-o-y.
Plot sale realisation increased to ₹7,167 per square foot, registering a 50 per cent y-o-y growth.
On the financial performance front, during 2024-25 fiscal, Prestige Estates net profit fell sharply to ₹467.5 crore, from ₹1,374.1 crore in the preceding year.
Total income too declined to ₹7,735.5 crore in the last fiscal year, from ₹9,425.3 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal.
Prestige Group has developed more than 300 projects so far and is constructing a large number of properties across major states.

Shohei Ohtani was about halfway through his home-run trot when Taro Abe stood up from his second-row seat in the Vin Scully Press Box and tucked his green scorebook under his right arm.
“Let’s go,” Abe said in Japanese.
Abe, a writer for Japan’s Chunichi Sports newspaper, was followed into the concourse of Dodger Stadium’s suite level by four other reporters from his country. They were on a mission: Find the person who caught Ohtani’s home-run ball.
There was nothing special about this blast, which was Ohtani’s second on Friday in an eventual 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees. The homer was Ohtani’s 22nd of the season and reduced the Dodgers’ deficit at the time from three to two.
“We have to do this every time,” Abe said.
This practice started a couple of years ago, when Ohtani was still playing for the Angels. The appetite for Ohtani content was insatiable in Japan, but the two-way player started speaking to reporters only after games in which he pitched. Naoyuki Yanagihara of Sports Nippon and Masaya Kotani of Full Count figured out a solution for their problem: They started interviewing the fans who caught his home-run balls.
The feature was received well by their readers and gradually spread to other publications. Now, besides the homers that land in bullpens or any other place inaccessible to fans, a group of Japanese reporters will be there to interview the person who snagged the prized souvenir.
Neither Yanagihara nor Kotani was on this particular journey into the right-field pavilion, as Yanagihara was temporarily back in Japan and Kotani remained in the press box. Both of their publications were represented by other reporters. I was there too.
One of the reporters, Michi Murayama of Sports Hochi, looked at me curiously.
“You’re coming?” she asked.
Abe joked: “He’s coming to write how ridiculous the Japanese media is.”
As we walked down a carpeted hallway by the suites down the first-base line, Abe turned around and asked if anyone had seen who caught the ball.
No one had.
Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani hit a pair of home runs off Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Before departing from the press box, reporters usually study replays of the homer to find identifying features of the ballhawk. But in this case, the scramble for the ball was obscured by a short barrier that divided a television cameraman from the crowd.
Abe led the pack out of an exit near the Stadium Club. When we re-entered the ballpark at the loge level, we heard a familiar chant: “Fre-ddie! Fre-ddie!”
The reporters stopped to watch the game from behind the last row of seats. Freeman doubled in a run to reduce the Dodgers’ deficit to one, and pandemonium ensued. A young woman clutching a beer danced. Strangers exchanged high-fives. Others performed the Freddie Dance.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone removed Max Fried from the game, and called Jonathan Loáisiga from the bullpen. It was time for us to move on.
Seniority heavily influences professional and personal interactions in Japanese culture, which was why when we reached the top of the right-field pavilion, the two-most-junior reporters were told to find the ball-catching fan and return with him. Iori Kobayashi of Sports Nippon, 25, and Akihiro Ueno of Full Count, 27, accepted their fates without question.
However, the veteran Murayama noticed they weren’t making any progress, and soon she was in the middle of the pavilion with them. She came back soon after to tell us we were in the wrong place.
“We have to go down to the Home Run Seats,” she said, referring to seats directly behind the right-field wall that are in a separate section as the rest of the pavilion.
The ushers there were helpful, describing how the ball struck the portable plastic wall behind the cameraman, rolled under the barrier, and was taken by a boy in a gray jersey. Murayama found the boy and said he would speak to the group when the inning was over.
“They usually come after the inning because they want to watch the game too,” Abe said.
While we waited, Eriko Takehama of Sankei Sports approached Abe and showed him a picture of a fan holding up a piece of the plastic wall that was struck by Ohtani’s homer. The piece had broken off, and the fan told Takehama that he was taking it home.
“Do you want to talk to him?” Takehama asked Abe. “He said he caught a ball three years ago.”
Abe declined.
While watching Max Muncy taking first base on an intentional walk, Abe said, “Everyone has a story. You ask them where they live, where they work and there’s usually something interesting. We’re writing human-interest stories with Ohtani as a cover.”
This story would be about a 14-year-old eighth-grader from Monrovia named Fisher Luginvuhl. With his mother standing nearby, the Little League catcher gushed, “It’s like the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
The reporters circled the boy and photographed him holding up the ball. They exchanged numbers with Luginvuhl’s father so they could send him links to the stories they produced.
While the reporters worked together to locate Luginvuhl, they were also in competition with each other to post the story first. Murayama wrote hers on her phone as she walked. Ueno sent audio of the six-minute interview to the Full Count offices in Japan, where the recording was transcribed by an English-speaking reporter, who then used the quotes to write a story.
Walking to the right-field pavilion and back was exhausting. I mentioned this to Abe, and he reminded me, “This was my second time doing this today.”
Abe wrote 13 stories on Friday night, 10 of them about Ohtani, including two on fans who caught his homers.
Just as we returned to the press box, the next hitter was announced over the public-address system: “Shohei Ohtani!”
Abe laughed and braced for another long walk.

This film is one that has been enjoyed by movie-lovers for over three decades and it has become a timeless classic loved by audiences old and new. The Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont, has stood the test of time and still receives much critical acclaim even 30 years later.
The story follows the tale of Andy Dufresne who is imprisoned in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover. The upstanding banker begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates – including an older prisoner named Red – for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.
Starring Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as Ellis Boyd ‘Red’ Redding, the two characters each undergo their own transformation arc but their journeys are intertwined.
One reviewer on IMDb said: “The best movie in history and the best ending in any entertainment business.”
Another penned: “It deserves this praise that seems to be growing each year. Now twenty years old, the film has not aged a day, and instead seems to be getting better.
“This is Tim Robbins’ best role, and a fine performance from the always wonderful Morgan Freeman.”
The film is based on the novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King, which was released in his 1982 collection of short stories, Different Seasons.
It is set in Maine but was filmed at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio.
The compound was to be demolished once filming wrapped, but the cellblock and main administrative building were saved and became a tourist attraction.
While the film was not an immediate box office hit, it became a hit after it received seven nominations at the Oscars.
Although it did not win, following this it was rereleased in cinemas and today it is kept alive by digital streaming services.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) reports total new vehicle deliveries in Australia in its monthly VFACTS report. But this report doesn’t provide the full picture.
VFACTS has been around since 1992 and the major players are largely all included today, while the list of auto brands includes everything from Abarth to Zeekr. Even exotic brands like Ferrari and Rolls-Royce include their delivery figures.
But not every brand is included, and even if you include those that now report their sales numbers exclusively to the Electric Vehicle Council (EVC), last year’s reported tally of 1,237,287 new-vehicle deliveries in Australia isn’t accurate. Is it off by much? Not in the grand scheme of things, but it’s off.
Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.
So, who’s missing? Australia’s biggest-selling electric vehicle (EV) brand for one, as well as a slew of lower-volume brands. Here’s a breakdown.
General Motors Australia and New Zealand (GM ANZ) currently reports deliveries of Chevrolet-badged vehicles sold through its GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) retail network.

However, it has confirmed it won’t report figures for the recently launched Cadillac and GMC brands… at least not yet.
GMSV will soon start deliveries of the GMC Yukon Denali large SUV, while deliveries of Cadillac’s only model to arrive in Australia thus far – the Lyriq electric SUV – commenced earlier this year. Only one GMC-branded vehicle has been confirmed for Australia, though the Cadillac lineup will expand to include smaller Optiq and larger Vistiq SUVs in 2026.
GM ANZ wouldn’t share sales targets or order numbers for the Yukon, while it has previously said the Lyriq will sell in “exclusive volumes”.
Don’t expect to see these models appear in VFACTS reports this year.
“We decided not to go this year because it’s not a full year of sales, it wouldn’t be representative of a full year for us,” GM International communications director Lauren Indiveri-Clarke told CarExpert in April.
Chinese brand Deepal only started deliveries of its debut vehicle, the mid-size S07 electric SUV, in December 2024.

It has confirmed two more models for our market, the E07 ute/SUV chimera and the S05 small electric SUV, but thus far it has yet to report its sales figures in the monthly VFACTS report.
“As our momentum builds, we’re targeting VFACTS reporting from the second half of 2025 – a key step as we move beyond launch phase and position the brand for long-term growth,” said a spokesperson for Deepal Australia.
Ineos Automotive is a fledgling brand, having only started producing its first vehicle in 2022.

Local deliveries of the large Grenadier off-road SUV began later that year, and Ineos’ debut model was subsequently joined by Quartermaster ute and cab/chassis models.
But it has never reported its delivery numbers in VFACTS, and we’ve asked Ineos when that might change.
Indian automaker Mahindra has been selling vehicles in Australia since 2007, but it has never reported its delivery totals in the monthly VFACTS report.

We’ve contacted Mahindra Australia for comment.
It has offered a ute from day one, while it currently also sells two medium-to-large SUVs, the XUV700 crossover and Scorpio off-roader. Utes, medium SUVs and large SUVs are the most popular vehicle types in Australia.
Mahindra has long had more of a focus on regional customers, particularly with the farmer-friendly Pik-Up, but it has been opening more showrooms in metro areas. It’s unclear whether this is a prelude to Mahindra reporting its sales figures in our market.
Smart returned to Australia late in 2024, imported by Australia’s biggest Mercedes-Benz retailer, LSH Auto.

Now an electric-only brand, Smart offers the small #1 and #3 small SUVs, with the mid-size #5 due here later this year.
A spokesperson for the brand said that since local sales started in October 2024, Smart has delivered more than 500 vehicles. Up-spec variants accounted for a “high percentage” of initial sales.
Chinese EV brand Xpeng launched here last year under importer and distributor True EV, with deliveries commencing towards the end of 2024.

The brand thus far offers only one model, the G6 mid-size electric SUV.
“We appreciate the interest in Xpeng’s progress in Australia and understand the curiosity around reporting figures,” a spokesperson for the company told CarExpert.
“Right now, our priority is building a strong foundation for Xpeng’s long-term success in the market. As we continue to grow locally, we are evaluating the best approach to industry reporting in alignment with our long-term strategy.”
There are two other EV brands that don’t report their sales figures in VFACTS. However, they report their sales figures in the EVC’s monthly report, which means we have to collate these figures manually each month.
Tesla quit the FCAI, the peak lobby group for car brands in Australia, in March 2024, accusing it of making “demonstrably false” claims about the federal government’s then-upcoming New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES).

It also confirmed it would cease reporting delivery numbers in VFACTS reports after July, after which it switched to exclusively reporting its deliveries in the EVC’s monthly report.
While it isn’t a requirement for a company to be an FCAI member or report its sales via VFACTS, there is a cost involved.
Tesla has for some time been the best-selling EV brand in Australia, though this year it has suffered a significant downturn in sales. It delivered 3394 vehicles to the end of April, down 57.6 per cent on the same period last year.
That has allowed BYD to push past, with 3487 deliveries recorded across its EV model lines – though this is less than half its total tally once plug-in hybrids are included.
Not only was Tesla the number-one EV brand in Australia in 2024, it sold Australia’s two most popular EVs. It remains to be seen whether it can repeat that feat this year, though it’s off to a rough start.
Polestar used to report its sales figures to VFACTS, but stopped doing so when the Sino-Swedish brand withdrew its membership from the FCAI in March 2024.

The company’s local boss at the time, Samantha Johnson, slammed the FCAI for its commentary on the NNVES which had not yet been enacted.
In a letter to the FCAI, Ms Johsnon said the FCAI “may have irrevocably damaged consumer perception and trust in the proposed policy” and that it “cannot in good faith continue to allow its membership fees to fund a campaign designed to deliberately slow the car industry’s contribution to Australia’s emissions reduction potential”.
It has since reported its figures exclusively to the EVC lobby group, and it has no plans to return to VFACTS reporting.
“Polestar withdrew from the FCAI in March 2024 as a result of its resistance to sensible emissions standards designed to bring cleaner cars to Australia in the lead-up to the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES),” said a spokesperson for Polestar Australia.
To the end of April, Polestar Australia has delivered 591 vehicles this year. This is up 32.2 per cent on the same period last year, with the Polestar 4 mid-size SUV and the Polestar 3 large SUV joining the Polestar 2 fastback.

NSE IPO is stuck for a long time due to regulatory hurdles.
NSE IPO: Shares of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the unlisted market have surged to a record high of Rs 2,300 after at least two media reports emerged that the exchange is working towards settling the long-standing co-location case with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). It revives the hopes of NSE IPO that has long been stuck.
The development comes as both NSE and SEBI have reportedly restarted discussions to arrive at a consent settlement, marking a possible turning point in a regulatory saga that has been a major hurdle in NSE’s IPO ambitions for years, according to MoneyControl report. The case, which is currently pending before the Supreme Court, had earlier seen SEBI challenge a Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) ruling that diluted penalties imposed on NSE in 2019.
Earlier, The National Stock Exchange (NSE) had clarified that it has not approached the Ministry of Finance regarding its long-pending Initial Public Offering (IPO), contrary to a recent media report.
NSE stated that it has not made “any such representation to the Union Government in the last 30 months.” There has been no communication between NSE and the Ministry of Finance on this issue.
Krishna Patwari, Founder and Managing Director of Wealth Wisdom India Pvt Ltd, said SEBI’s move signals a shift in regulatory tone and has boosted investor sentiment around the NSE’s public listing.
NSE’s share price in the unlisted market has jumped to Rs 2,300, pushing its market cap to around Rs 5.69 lakh crore—an all-time high on May 28th, said Patwari.
“SEBI’s willingness to settle long-standing regulatory issues with NSE is a major step forward,” Patwari said. He added that the exchange’s agreement to pay a significant sum shows its commitment to resolving legacy matters:
“The change in SEBI’s stance under the new Chairman indicates a more collaborative approach. Investor confidence has surged. The spike in unlisted share prices clearly shows the optimism around NSE’s IPO finally becoming a reality.”
The co-location case revolves around allegations that certain brokers unfairly benefited by placing their servers closer to NSE’s trading system within its co-location facility. This proximity allowed faster access to data and trades, providing an undue advantage over others and raising concerns of market manipulation and lack of fair access.
The initial SEBI order in 2019 had imposed significant penalties, which NSE challenged before SAT. While SAT gave a relatively lenient ruling, SEBI appealed the decision in the Supreme Court, where the case remains pending.
Sources told MoneyControl, SEBI could now demand nearly twice the amount NSE paid in its previous record Rs 643 crore Trading Access Point (TAP) case settlement in 2023.
“The discussions began around one and a half months ago. Currently, both sides are negotiating the amount that NSE should pay. Given the TAP case involved Rs 643 crore, SEBI may demand a significantly higher sum for the co-location matter,” the source told MoneyControl.
However, with a favourable SAT order already in hand, NSE may be reluctant to accept a very high settlement demand, setting the stage for tough negotiations between the two parties.

As the month of May draws to a close, investors are searching for the best new coin in which to invest. So far, one of the hottest coins that everyone is talking about is Mutuum Finance (MUTM). Some analysts believe that this could outperform Ethereum (ETH) in terms of real-term gains. This is especially so based on recent developments revealed by the team, which have been turning heads.
One of the biggest announcements to come from the Mutuum finance team is that they have passed the Certik audit. The audit is a mark of trust and represents a major milestone for the team. It signals they are committed to delivering a safe product that will benefit everyone in the DeFi world.
Passing a Certik audit requires that the code be examined for any inherent vulnerabilities that may impact early adopters. Due to the trustless nature of DeFi, a Certik audit is the only way for early adopters to confirm that a project is safe.
Following the results of the Certik audit, the team is now focused on delivering a beta version of the platform. They plan to launch the beta version on a testnet on the same day as the public listing. This will allow all early adopters and future ones to examine the platform and confirm the promises made by the team. The launch is also expected to generate more visibility for the project online, which will boost its organic reach.
Another development that is turning heads is the planned $100K giveaway. The giveaway is ongoing and aims to reward presale participants with $10K in MUTM tokens each. To participate in the giveaway, buyers in the presale only need to make a $50 purchase of MUTM tokens.
Mutuum Finance is currently in Phase 5 of its presale. It has so far raised over $9.7 million from over 11,400 investors. These early investors stand to make some massive gains based on recent forecasts from analysts.
For instance, at the current price of $0.03 per token, that is a 100% ROI based on the listing day price of $0.06. The current price represents a 200% increase from the Phase 1 price of $0.01, and a 20% increase from the Phase 4 price of $0.025. In the upcoming phase 6, the token price will increase 16.67% to $0.035.
However, those presale price gains pale in comparison to what analysts expect when MUTM goes live. Currently, the most conservative estimates call for a 5x increase, with some more optimistic estimates calling for a 20x increase.
Those increases are expected to occur within the first few days of the public listing. With a listing on a major exchange expected after that, the price of Mutuum Finance (MUTM) tokens could have exploded, shadowing the gains made by Ethereum in the early stages of its release. Once the initial surge dies down, it is likely that Mutuum Finance will continue rising due to its value proposition.
The Mutuum Finance project aims to transform the DeFi world with utility. For lenders, it will provide an easy means to earn interest on assets while still maintaining total liquidity. The project achieves this through a nouveau approach called mtTokens. These tokens represent the value of a depositor’s assets in a pool as well as the interest they accrue.
For instance, if a depositor deposits $4,500 worth of MATIC in a pool, they will receive mtMATIC tokens. These tokens grant the holder instant liquidity and can be used to take advantage of market opportunities elsewhere.
Mutuum Finance (MUTM) plans to launch external liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges such as Uniswap, where users can go to redeem their mtTokens. The approach will ensure liquidity is preserved on the protocol while still allowing users to have access to their assets with ease.
To preserve the long-term stability of the platform, they have also introduced a stability factor. The factor will be used to rate tokens used as collateral. This rating will be assigned based on various factors, with a focus on volatility and liquidity. If the value of collateral backing a position drops below an acceptable level, it will be liquidated. Liquidators can then step in to purchase the debt at a profit, while helping to maintain protocol stability.
Mutuum Finance (MUTM) will reinvigorate the DeFi space, opening up new opportunities for crypto asset holders worldwide. Its commitment to protocol growth by balancing liquidity and expanding market opportunities will ensure holders of MUTM tokens can experience value growth. The ongoing presale presents a unique opportunity to join this revolutionary ecosystem while it is still on the ground floor.

India is poised to see a massive surge in demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI) professionals, with projections estimating the need for one million skilled individuals by 2026, according to the report — India’s AI Revolution: A Roadmap to Viksit Bharat — released by the Union Ministry of Electronics & IT.
As the country aspires to become a $23-35 trillion economy by 2047, higher education — particularly in engineering — is undergoing a fundamental transformation to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market shaped by AI, automation, and interdisciplinary innovation.
Engineering education is at the heart of this shift. According to the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the number of approved B. Tech seats for the 2024-25 academic year has risen to 14.9 lakh — a nearly 16 per cent increase over four years. This growth is largely driven by a more than 50 per cent rise in seats for Computer Science and allied streams such as AI/ML, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Blockchain–mirroring strong industry demand.
India’s tech education landscape is increasingly embracing interdisciplinary and industry-integrated learning to nurture a new generation of engineers who can code, create, collaborate, and lead innovation. The transition from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to STEAM, adding Arts to the mix, is gaining ground, blending technical knowledge with design thinking, communication, psychology, law, and business.
Recently, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) announced the launch of Symbiosis Artificial Intelligence Institute (SAII), an artificial intelligence (AI)-focused institute. According to the institute, SAII will integrate cutting-edge AI into academic programmes and research.
Amruta Yeravdekar Ruikar, Head of International Admissions & Promotions, Symbiosis International University, said, ”By embracing AI, we are not just keeping pace with global innovation but also empowering our students to become responsible innovators and problem-solvers who will shape the future… Both B. Tech and BCA integrate AI in specialisations enforcing learning and development and preparing students for the future.”
The India Skills Report 2024 by Wheebox forecasts that India’s AI industry will reach $28.8 billion by 2025, with a CAGR of 45 per cent. The report highlights that the AI-skilled workforce has seen a 14-fold increase from 2016 to 2023, making India one of the top five fastest-growing AI talent hubs, alongside Singapore, Finland, Ireland, and Canada.
Dr Kathiravan Kannan, Director, SRM Group of Institutions, Ramapuram, Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, said, “The surge in demand for AI professionals’ stems from rapid technological progress. As AI reshapes productivity, operations, and innovation, preparing a future-ready workforce is imperative… .”
This interdisciplinary momentum is now a nationwide trend as institutions are increasingly embedding research-driven curricula, industry mentorship and global exposure into their programs. New focus areas like Extended Reality (XR), ethical AI, data visualisation, and digital manufacturing are becoming foundational to modern tech education.
According to Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor, Mahindra University, “We see a growing need to foster an innovation ecosystem driven by AI, for today’s youth by providing experiential learning opportunities such as internships, global immersion programmes, and research initiatives….”

Cavities are incredibly common, affecting 90% of adults between the ages of 19 and 64 — but they are often preventable.
Also known as “dental caries,” cavities are damaged areas in the hard parts of the teeth caused by tooth decay, according to Mayo Clinic.
These areas become tiny openings or holes that can lead to toothaches, infections and even tooth loss.
When a cavity is just starting, you may not have any symptoms at all. That’s why it’s important to be checked regularly at a dentist, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Even if your mouth feels fine, a professional may be able to pick up on smaller signals before the decay grows.

Once the decay gets larger, there may be symptoms like toothaches, sharp pains when eating, visible holes in the teeth, staining on the surface of a tooth or pain when biting.
Cavities are holes in the teeth through which bacteria can enter. (iStock)
Dental plaque forming in the mouth is what leads to tooth decay, the process that creates cavities.
Plaque forms when bacteria in the mouth mixes with “sugary or starchy food” like milk, juice, bread and pasta, according to Cleveland Clinic.

If those sugars and starches are not removed from the teeth through healthy habits, like regular flossing and brushing after meals, bacteria begin feeding on them, the above source states.
The acids from bacteria strip away tooth enamel, leaving tiny openings that mark the beginning stages of a cavity. Bacteria and acid can enter through these holes and reach the vulnerable inner parts of the teeth, causing pain and more severe problems.

If you don’t clean sugars and starches off your teeth properly, bacteria begin feeding on them and wearing down the hard outer shell of the tooth. (iStock)
Fox News Digital previously spoke to Dr. Ricky Marshall about the impact of stomach acid and saliva production on dental health.

“The amount of acid coming up and contacting the teeth will absolutely contribute to increased tooth decay,” said Marshall, who is the owner of Stratland Dental in Glendale, Arizona, and a dentist at Wolff Family Dentistry & Orthodontics in Queen Creek, Arizona.
“A combination of dry mouth and increased stomach acid can be detrimental to teeth,” he said.
BRUSH, FLOSS, MOUTHWASH: DENTISTS REVEAL WHAT THEY BELIEVE IS THE CORRECT ORDER
Dry mouth, linked to causes like snoring and potentially certain medications, can increase the risk of tooth decay due to reduced saliva production.
“Your saliva clears away the acid and helps to repair the enamel,” the CDC states on its website. “If the repair isn’t fast enough, bacteria get inside your tooth and make cavities.”

Saliva helps clear away bacteria to keep plaque from forming, so it’s important to treat dry mouth symptoms when they appear, experts say. (iStock)
Cleveland Clinic recommends brushing your teeth with a soft-bristled brush twice a day, and ideally after every meal.

Experts also recommend cutting back on sugary, starchy foods and drinks. As mentioned above, these can mix with bacteria and promote the buildup of dental plaque.

“You should visit your dentist every year, especially to find any cavities,” the CDC advises.
For small cavities, your dentist may recommend using fluoride or other products. Large cavities may require fillings or even root canals.

China’s delegation to the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue on Saturday reaffirmed its rejection of practices of unilateralism and bullying.
Speaking at a special session titled “Cooperative Maritime Security in the Asia-Pacific,” Hu Gangfeng, vice president of the National Defense University of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said China will uphold its three global initiatives on development, security, and civilization and actively implement the vision of a maritime community with a shared future.
China will work with others to build a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation in Asia Pacific, said Hu. He stressed that China proposes the practice of multilateralism, sincere dialogue and consultation, and equal exchanges and mutual learning to secure that goal.
Hosted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Shangri-La Dialogue, widely seen as Asia’s leading defense summit, convenes from Friday to Sunday in Singapore, with more than 550 delegates from over 40 countries and regions attending.
As the global security landscape fractures and the multilateral system faces unprecedented strain, all eyes are on China’s stance.
“We need China to take a more active role in the discussion, as it can help alleviate the conflict that affects the global community,” said Nuriyeni Kartika Bintarsari, head of international relations at Jenderal Soedirman University, according to Xinhua.
‘China building up security of region through growth’
China’s active role in global security governance has been increasingly acknowledged. In 2022, China introduced the Global Security Initiative. As of the end of 2024, with the support of 119 countries and international and regional organizations, the initiative has been written into 123 bilateral and multilateral cooperation documents.
At a central conference on work related to neighboring countries in April, China, for the first time, proposed an Asian security model that features sharing weal and woe, seeking common ground while shelving differences, and prioritizing dialogue and consultation.
In a white paper on China’s national security in the new era, released on May 12, China makes it clear that it advocates common security, emphasizing that all nations have equal security interests and the legitimate security concerns of every country deserve due attention and proper resolution.
In addition, China also attaches great importance to the coordination of development and security, following the Chinese philosophy that sustainable development lays the foundation for lasting peace and stability.
In an exclusive interview with CGTN host Xu Qinduo, Chan Heng Chee, ambassador-at-large with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted China’s contributions to regional development through the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, emphasizing that economic security is as vital as military security.
“China is building up the security of the region by contributing to its growth and institutionalization and the strengthening of the countries’ economies,” said Chan, referring to the Asia-Pacific region and Southeast Asia in particular. “And that is appreciated very much in the region.”
A dinner commemorated the reopening of the wing and its revamped collection of work from Africa, the ancient Americas and Oceania.

It wouldn’t be hard to turn Dave McCabe’s life into a misery memoir – expelled from school, found guilty of assault, years wasted on drink and drugs… But marriage and fatherhood gave the Zutons frontman the motivation to beat the bottle. McCabe’s face lights up when he talks about his three-year-old son, Louie. “He grounds me,” Dave tells me. “He makes me laugh. He stops me from thinking I’m Elvis. If you’ve got kids, you’ve got to be the anchor. That’s what keeps me from going off the rails.” Finding love and having Louie were “the best things that ever happened to me,” he says. He married wife Paula just over a year ago. “If it wasn’t for this woman, I’d be a lot worse off, maybe not even here.” Dave’s unbridled joy informed the Liverpool band’s last album, 2024’s The Big Decider, which exploded with renewed zest and lust for life. “It still speaks to the people but with optimism,” he tells me. “It’s good to get away from reality, we’re not the Sleaford Mods.”
Born in Knowsley on Merseyside, the son of a plasterer and a Makro supermarket worker, McCabe. 44, is brutally honest about his flaws. “I’m a narky bastard,” he confesses. “And certain people know how to push your buttons. They see you doing better than they are, or having a strong opinion, putting your arse on the line when you write a song…But you’ve got to take the punches.” He will always be remembered for co-writing the Zutons’ biggest hit Valerie – a bona fide 21st century pop classic, regularly rated in the UK’s Top Ten karaoke songs. Dave pinches himself every time he hears it blaring out of a bar. The gloriously catchy 2006 single – “a gift from God” – was the band’s second Top Ten smash. Then Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson covered it… Dave told them he didn’t think it’d do well “as we’d had a big hit with it and lightning doesn’t strike twice!” But it did. Ronson’s faster, more soulful, and even more exhilarating version propelled by a Motown backbeat peaked at No 2 in 2007 becoming Amy’s all-time biggest hit, outselling even Rehab.
Valerie started as a riff in a band rehearsal. McCabe then turned into a song in his head on a 15-minute taxi ride home to his mum’s. “I grabbed the guitar, sat in my bedroom, and wrote the rest out, and it all came together in about five minutes. It was pretty spontaneous.” Makeup artist Valerie Star, who Dave had befriended on a US tour supporting The Killers, inspired the lyrics – she’d been caught driving under the influence. Hence the line: ‘Did you have to go to jail? Put your house up for sale?’ Other Zutons’ memorable hits include Why Don’t You Give Me Your Love? and Don’t Ever Think (Too Much). They had four Top Ten albums, two of them platinum-sellers, but it was Valerie that kept their name alive after they split in 2009. They didn’t reform properly until 2018. A long gap. “It was the most massive gap in history,” Dave laughs. “We got sick of each other at one point. I just wish I’d got my s*** together sooner. It’s a nice ending now.”
Dave’s life changed when, aged 11, he saw alt-rockers The Verve live supporting the Smashing Pumpkins. “I was dead little and they came on with long hair and played Slide Away. It was my introduction to that whole scene. I asked me mum if I could buy the album, A Storm In Heaven. I was heavily into heavy rock and didn’t get it at first but later I played it again and it made sense.” Growing up his house was full of music. “Mum and dad loved Talking Heads, Buddy Holly, and Queen. My brother was into Depeche Mode, Erasure and Kraftwerk. The reason I got into Guns N’ Roses and Metallica is because I was rebelling against what I’d heard at home. Then grunge hit and that was completely my thing.”
Expelled for cutting off another classmate’s hair, Dave resurfaced in a “bad school” where his mates knew him as “Mad Dog” – also the name of his first band. Life only made sense when he got his first guitar. At 19, he joined rock band Tramp Attack, co-founded by the late Brookside actor Kristian Ealey, but quit in 2001 to form the Zutons, taking their name from Zoot Horn Rollo, the guitarist in Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band. They released their debut single, urgent indie-rocking foot-tapper Devil’s Deal, in 2002, then signed to Liverpool label Deltasonic and followed it with the critically acclaimed Creepin’ An’ A Crawling. “The Strokes opened the door for everyone who played guitar,” he says.
Initially their music confused critics who likened it variously to ‘zombie soul’, ‘cosmic Scouse’, ‘psychedelic cartoon punk’ and ‘The Who jamming with The Rapture in a wind tunnel’. Touring in the early days wasn’t always pleasant. “Our label put us on tour with a band called The Basement,” he recalls. “They weren’t bad, but they were getting good press and were full of themselves. We would go head-to-head on the bus every night. It got intense sometimes. With two bands who think they’re the business, you’re going to end up fighting. Larrikin Love couldn’t stand me.” Why? He shrugs. “Maybe they thought I was an arsehole,” he says with a shrug.
Their debut album changed everything. Who Killed…The Zutons? went Top Ten in 2004, selling more than 1.2million copies, and spawning two Top 20 singles – Pressure Point and Don’t Ever Think (Too Much). 2006’s other platinum album Tired Of Hanging Around produced the Top Tens, and their weaker third album, 2008’s You Can Do Anything, went silver, begetting Top 30 hit, Always Right Behind You. The Zutons quietly disbanded in 2009. Dave made the papers for the wrong reasons in 2010 for breaking a student’s nose after his friends mocked McCabe’s then-girlfriend. The following year, he co-wrote Mark Ronson’s Top 20 hit The Bike Song and sang as part of The Justice Collective’s Hillsborough charity single, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother along with Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams. In 2015, McCabe released his synth-poppy debut solo album Church Of Miami and later played bass with psychedelic funk-pop band SILENT-K. Dave acknowledges that Amy Winehouse’s cover of Valerie kept the Zutons name in the frame during their long absence but doesn’t resent it, saying, “She immortalised it, she took it to a new level.”
In 2018, the Zutons reformed to mark the 15th anniversary of their debut album with a tour – “It made us realise we really enjoyed being in this band”. But after holidaying together in America, Dave realised his drink and drug problems were out of hand. I went to rehab and came out clean and we started writing – then the lockdown kicked in.” Staying in their own bubble, they carried on writing, but McCabe started drinking and taking mushrooms again. Falling for Paula changed that. “I knew I had to stop or I’d be a s*** dad with no band. Since she arrived things have only got better for me and the people around me.”
Their hit come-back album, The Big Decider – co-produced by Ian Broudie and Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers – came loaded with danceable optimism. “It was like working with two uncles,” he laughs. “Ian makes you sound amazing and Nile is so smart and funny.” Sober for more than three years, McCabe enjoys performing better now – “I can sing all the notes, I’m focused, I’m not just in my own world anymore.” The Zutons play Nocturne later this month, headlined by his teenage idol The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft. “I’m looking forward to seeing Richard,” he says. “The last time I saw him he was really inspiring. He had a message of positivity. I can’t wait to experience that atmosphere again.”
*The Zutons perform alongside Richard Ashcroft and Lightning Seeds at the Nocturne Live concert series at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on June 19th 2025. Tickets nocturnelive.com.
The exterior of the long-rumoured Toyota FJ Cruiser successor has been exposed in a patent filing in the Philippines.
First discovered by Top Gear Philippines, the SUV bears a striking resemblance to shadowy vehicle teased at the launch of the 250-Series LandCruiser Prado, as well as the 2022 Compact Cruiser EV concept (below).
All three vehicles have a stepped side window line, a C-pillar so thick it could block out the sun, and black wheel arch extensions that blend into the bumpers. Overall the design blends elements of the FJ Cruiser and the 70-Series LandCruiser.
Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now.

The FJ Cruiser successor could be branded as the LandCruiser FJ given Toyota Australia successfully trademarked the name back last year.
Rumours indicate the new FJ is based on Toyota’s IMV-0 body-on-frame architecture which underpins the back-to-basics HiLux Champ ute. Indeed the front ends of the FJ and the Champ have a lot of similarities.
Launched in Thailand towards the tail-end of 2023, the HiLux Champ is priced from 459,000 baht ($21,750). Unlike most utes seen on Aussie roads today, the Champ is available solely with a two-seat single cab layout.
In short wheelbase form, the Champ with a factory tray is 4970mm long, 1785mm wide, 1735mm tall, and rides on a 2750mm wheelbase. Long wheelbase variants measure 5300mm long and have a 3085mm wheelbase.
Three engines are available in the Champ. The petrol options are a 102kW/183Nm 2.0-litre, and a 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre, with a 110kW/400Nm 2.4-litre turbo-diesel available for those who prefer compression ignition. A five-speed manual or six-speed auto are available.

An earlier report out of Japan indicated the new FJ will be around 4500mm long and have a 2750mm wheelbase. Judging from patent image, the FJ will be quite a bit wider than the HiLux Champ.
The same publication believes the FJ will come with the Champ’s 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. That would be quite a step down from the FJ Cruiser’s 200kW/380Nm 4.0-litre V6 mill.
By contrast, the current 4.9m LandCruiser Prado and 5.0m LandCruiser, as well as their Lexus GX and LX siblings, are based on the TNGA-F platform.
This architecture is also used by the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra utes, as well as the 4Runner and Sequoia SUVs.
It’s likely the FJ will significantly undercut the Prado’s starting price of $72,500 before on-road costs. It will be interesting to see how the FJ is priced compared to the Fortuner SUV. The seven-seat Fortuner is based on the HiLux, and starts from $53,775 before on-road costs.

Earlier in April too, the prices of 19-kg LPG cylinders were reduced by Rs 41.
LPG New Price In Major Cities From June 1:
Bangalore: Rs 1,796.50 (down from Rs 1,820.50)
Bhubaneswar: Rs 1,868.00 (down from Rs 1,892.00)

While the price of 19-kg cylinders has been changed, the cost of 14-kg LPG commercial cylinders remains unchanged.
Notably, the LPG prices vary from city to city due to local taxes and transportation costs.
The change in the price of an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder depends on several key factors, both global and domestic, including crude oil prices, current exchange rates, and international LPG benchmark rates.
The Ethereum price soared over 5% this week and surpassed $2,700, while the Shiba Inu coin price is up on the monthly chart. As altseason approaches, ETH is expected to be at the forefront, with SHIB on course to lead the meme craze. Meanwhile, experts are bullish on Unilabs (UNIL), a novel AI-backed asset manager for digital assets.
Hailed as the future of decentralized finance, its utility coin, UNIL, is among the best AI coins to buy now. Alongside ETH and SHIB—top DeFi tokens to buy—its upside potential as a low-cap makes it a must-have this year.
Ethereum has been one of the best performers this month, exploding from a 30-day low of $1,736 to above $2,000. The Ethereum price soared by over 50% in the past month, cementing its status as one of the top DeFi tokens to buy.
On the weekly chart, it recorded a 5% rally, pushing the ETH price above $2,700. While some analysts’ Ethereum price predictions suggest a decline—a retest of the $2,000 and $2,100 support—bulls hint at further upswings.
A bold Ethereum price prediction was shared by Ted Pillows, hinting at the Layer-1 coin reaching $6,000 by Q4 2025—one of the top DeFi tokens to buy. Growing institutional demand and interest were cited, alongside a potential ETH ETF staking feature. Equally optimistic is Ash Crypto, predicting an ETH price jump between $7,000 and $10,000 this year.
The leading ETH memecoin, SHIB, is up over 5% on the monthly chart, changing hands around $0.000014. It reflects current bullish sentiment, with experts’ Shiba Inu price prediction suggesting a retest of $0.000017—its 30-day peak—next.
Moreover, the Bull Bear Power and 9-HMA signal a bounce in the Shiba Inu price, adding to its bullish outlook as one of the top DeFi tokens to buy this year. The Shibmagazine is among the leading experts bullish on SHIB. According to their Shiba Inu price prediction, the meme token could climb to $0.000081 this year.
At the current Shiba Inu price, it is undoubtedly one of the top DeFi tokens to buy. However, Unilabs’ UNIL token is on experts’ lists of the best AI coins to invest in. It has higher upside than the SHIB coin, courtesy of its small market size and bullish AI narrative.
Unilabs (UNIL) is a new DeFi protocol designed to meet the growing demand for alternatives to conventional financial markets. At the intersection between decentralized and traditional finance, it will be the first asset manager for digital assets. Hence, its native utility coin, UNIL, has been listed among the top DeFi tokens to buy.
This novel asset management platform has over $30 million in assets under management (AUM) as of Q2 2025. Interestingly, the Unilabs platform stands out for targeting diversified exposure—its AUM reflects disciplined capital allocation across four flagship funds: BTC Fund, Real-World Assets (RWA) Fund, AI Fund and Mining Fund.
Given the above, its dedication to maximizing gains by focusing on high-potential crypto sectors cannot be overemphasized. Further, its robust AI technology will discover promising projects at early stages, that is, before broader market recognition. Early identification means greater return potential while minimizing risk exposure.
The Ethereum price registering a 50% gain in the past month highlights a shift in market structure. Hence, it is unsurprising that bullish Ethereum price predictions have been flying. In addition, analysts’ Shiba Inu price predictions suggest a big leap, positioning it among the top DeFi tokens to buy now.
However, Unilabs, a new and low-cap AI coin, remains a favorite among seasoned investors. It costs $0.0051 in stage 2 of the ICO, with the price designed to increase as the presale unfolds—a 20% surge by the next stage. In addition, holders will be redistributed 30% of the platform-generated fees, making it arguably one of the top DeFi tokens to buy now.

Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan warned about the long-term risks to the US economy if politics eroded the pipeline of international students to American universities.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV Wednesday, Rajan cautioned that foreign student inflows have historically been a cornerstone of US innovation and economic leadership, but that current policies risk unravelling this advantage.
“The Sergey Brins of the world came as students and did wonders for the US economy,” Rajan said, pointing to one of the founders of Google. “To some extent, the problem is the universities haven’t made the case that they are so central to US growth, but also central to the distribution of that growth.”
Rajan, who is professor of finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, warned that squeezing foreign students could impact job growth, noting that companies like Alphabet Inc.’s Google employ thousands, thanks in part to immigration-linked talent pipelines.
At the heart of Rajan’s concerns is the ongoing battle between the White House and universities — one that initially centered on elite schools such as Harvard University and Columbia University over antisemitism — but that’s morphed into a larger attack over the role of US higher education. On Tuesday, the Trump administration escalated that fight further by ordering US embassies worldwide to stop scheduling interviews for student visas as it weighs stricter vetting of applicants’ social-media profiles.
“It is not a great environment,” Rajan said, citing rising fears among academics and administrators over visa security and retaliation from the White House. “It’s an environment which is inhibiting the ultimate production that the universities contribute to the US economy.”
International students accounted for 5.9 per cent of the total US higher education population of almost 19 million. In the 2023-2024 school year, more than 1.1 million foreign students came to the US, with India sending the most, followed by China.
The former central banker also drew a parallel between the decisions foreign students now face and the investment choices businesses make amid uncertainty. “If uncertainty increases, you tend to either postpone the investment or take it to a place where things are more certain,” he said.

If tariff news has you spooked, these are the tricks I can currently recommend to help you track the prices that matter the most to you.
Thinking a lot about tariffs lately? You and me both.
I’ve been keeping track of the impacts tariffs might be having on a variety of key products that are both popular and likely to be susceptible to tariffs. However, there’s only so much I can keep track of, given that I’m just one guy (I swear) and that CNET is focused on tech products and services. If there’s a product or type of product out there that you’re concerned about when it comes to tariff inflation, it might be worth doing a little legwork of your own.
Given the results of a recent CNET survey, it’s fair to say that a lot of you reading this might have concerns about tariff-driven price increases. According to our findings, about 38% of shoppers feel pressure to make certain purchases before tariffs make them more expensive. About 10% say they have already made certain purchases in hopes of getting them in before the price hikes, while 27% said they have delayed purchases for products that cost more than $500.
If that sounds like you, then I’d like to share a few tricks I’ve relied on to keep track of price shifts in the last few months, so that maybe you can keep tabs on the specific things that matter most to you. For all the details, keep reading, and for more, check out CNET’s coverage of the court ruling that struck down Trump’s tariffs.
Amazon is one of the most popular online shopping portals in the world, so it’s a great place to keep an eye out for price changes. The company’s reach with consumers of all kinds is so vast that even a rumor that it might explicitly show the impacts of tariffs on its prices resulted in a heated response from the White House.
If there’s an item for sale, odds are you can find it on Amazon — and there are a number of websites and browser add-ons that can show you the price history of most items listed there. For CNET’s daily tracker, I personally use the browser extension Keepa, which came recommended by CNET Senior Editor James Bricknell and which is available for Chrome, Safari, Opera, Edge and Firefox browsers. After you install it, Keepa works by adding a graph to Amazon store pages you visit, showing you the changes in the product’s price over time. You can fine-tune this graph as well, changing how far back the price history goes and adding or removing lines for different purchasing options.
Another popular option is CamelCamelCamel, which allows you to track Amazon prices either by copy-pasting a link into its search bar, or as a browser extension, available for all the same platforms as Keepa. Unlike Keepa, which adds the chart directly into the product page, this extension — known as “Camelizer” — requires you to open the chart from a button added to the browser’s menu bar. Besides that, the functionality is almost the same.
Both of these options also allow you to set up email alerts for when certain products shift in price on Amazon.
But maybe you don’t exclusively rely on Amazon for your online shopping needs. Maybe you took my advice and canceled your Prime membership recently, or maybe you just prefer doing business elsewhere for certain things. Well, you’re not out of luck, because some price-tracking services work with other popular retailers, like Walmart, Target or Best Buy.
If those are the sorts of places you’re shopping, I’d suggest taking a look at the aptly named site Price Tracker, which says that it can provide price history charts for 88 online retailers. All you have to do is copy-paste your product’s URL into the site’s search field, and it will generate a graph showing you its price over time, just as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel do.
Sometimes waiting for prices to change feels like too little, too late. If you want to be informed ahead of time and get an idea about broader changes, you would do well to follow the news surrounding specific companies and product sectors.
To do that, I’d recommend you create some Google Alerts related to the products you’re most concerned about. Using this service, you can set alerts for certain words or phrases — perhaps things like “tariffs,” “coffee prices,” or “Samsung Galaxy price” — and Google will send you daily emails with news stories based on them. This way, if news stories indicate that a certain grocery item you buy frequently is about to get more expensive, or if a big tech manufacturer announces a price hike for that new gadget you’ve been anticipating because of “market conditions,” you’ll be ahead of the curve.

Blood and urine tests have been found to detect the amount of ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) a person eats, according to new research.
Using machine learning, scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) identified hundreds of metabolites (molecules produced during metabolism) that correlated with processed food intake.
The team developed a “biomarker score” that predicts ultraprocessed food intake based on metabolite measurements in blood and urine, according to Erikka Loftfield, Ph.D., M.P.H., of the National Cancer Institute in Maryland.
PREMATURE DEATH LINKED TO CERTAIN TYPE OF FOOD, STUDY REVEALS
The researchers drew baseline data from 718 older adults who provided urine and blood samples and reported their dietary habits over a 12-month period, as detailed in an NIH press release.
Next, they conducted a small clinical trial of 20 adults. For two weeks, the group ate a diet high in ultraprocessed foods, and for another two weeks they ate a diet with no UPFs.

“In our study, we found that hundreds of serum and urine metabolites were correlated with percentage energy from ultraprocessed food intake,” Loftfield told Fox News Digital.
The findings were published in the journal PLOS Medicine.
THE WORST FOODS TO BUY IN THE SUPERMARKET AND THE BETTER CHOICES INSTEAD
Large-scale studies investigating the health risks of ultraprocessed foods often rely on self-reported dietary questionnaires, which can be prone to errors, per the NIH.
The new blood and urine test helps to reduce human error by using objective biomarkers, a growing area of interest among researchers.

Loftfield added, “It was surprising to find that UPF-correlated metabolites are involved in numerous and diverse biological pathways, underscoring the complex impact of diet on the metabolome.”
Ultraprocessed foods are defined as “ready-to-eat or ready-to-heat, industrially manufactured products, typically high in calories and low in essential nutrients,” according to the NIH.

Chronic diseases, obesity and various forms of cancer have been linked to diets that are heavy in UPFs.
Despite promising results, the researchers emphasized that the new method will require further validation before broader use.
Since the current trial focused mainly on older adults, more research is needed across various age groups and diets, the experts said.

“Metabolite scores should be evaluated and improved in populations with different diets and a wide range of UPF intake,” Loftfield acknowledged.

This method could potentially be used in future research to link the consumption of processed foods with chronic diseases, according to the researchers.

“For individuals concerned about ultraprocessed food intake, one practical recommendation is to use ‘nutrition facts’ labels to avoid foods high in added sugars, saturated fat and sodium, as this can limit UPF intake and align with robust scientific research on diet and health,” Loftfield suggested.
