Keep Your Wine From Spoiling Too Fast With These Easy Storage Hacks

Opening a bottle of wine doesn’t always mean finishing it in one sitting. Maybe you just want a glass with dinner or you’re saving the rest for the weekend. The question is, how long will that open bottle actually stay drinkable before the flavor starts to fade?

The good news is wine doesn’t go bad the instant the cork comes out. With a little care, you can stretch its life for several days. Storing the bottle upright, keeping it sealed tightly, and putting it in the fridge — even if it’s red — slows down the oxidation that dulls flavor.

How long it lasts depends on the style. Whites and rosés usually keep their freshness for up to five days, reds can hang on for three to five, and sparkling wines give you just a short window of one to three days before the bubbles and taste start to drop off.

Here are some invaluable tips on how long your wine can be expected to last, and how to store it to keep it fresh even longer.

Here’s how long wine lasts and how best to store it

Once any bottle of wine stays open beyond the few hours it takes to breathe and decant, its quality begins to deteriorate. That’s why it is crucial to take some steps to preserve its longevity, should you want to finish the remaining beverage before it essentially turns to vinegar.

According to wine educator Rachel Thralls, each wine type requires different storage methods. Here’s a breakdown of the most common.

Red wine

Open red wine should be stored in the fridge to preserve it and removed about 10 minutes before serving.

Days it will last in the fridge: 3-5

“Red wines can be stored in a cool, dark place with a cork or in your wine fridge or refrigerator,” says Thralls. “The more tannin and acidity the red wine has, the longer it tends to last after opening.”

For example, a lower tannin wine like Pinot Noir won’t last as long as rich reds like Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Some wines will even improve after the first day open,” Thralls adds. “If you don’t have a wine fridge, your regular fridge is better than letting the wine sit out in a 70-degree room. Just take the red wine out about 10 minutes before you want a glass so it warms up a little. The red wine will also open up in the glass.”

Full-bodied white wine

Fuller-bodied whites tend to lose their oomph a little faster.

“Full-bodied white wines such as oaked chardonnay and viognier tend to oxidize more quickly because they see more oxygen during their prebottling aging process,” explains Thralls. “Be certain to always keep them corked and in the fridge. If you drink a lot of this type of wine, it’s a really smart idea to also invest in vacuum caps.”

Sparkling wine

“Sparkling wines lose their carbonation quickly after opening,” says Thralls. “A traditional method sparkling wine such as cava or Champagne (which have more atmospheres of pressure, aka more bubbles) will last a little longer than a tank method sparkling wine like prosecco.”

Invest in a bouchon (sparkling wine stopper) for best results. If you’re really serious about preserving your Champagne, Coravin makes a bougie sparkling wine preservation system that pumps carbon dioxide back into the bottle to extend its effervescent fridge life by weeks.

Light white, sweet white and rosé wines

Days it will last in the fridge: 4-5

Uncorked light white wines can go for as long as five days if kept cold.

Fresh Vine

“Most light white and rosé wines will be drinkable for up to a week when stored in your refrigerator with a cork,” advises Thralls. “You’ll notice the taste will change subtly after the first day as the wine oxidizes. The overall fruit character of the wine will often diminish, becoming less vibrant.”

Tips for storing wine

How and where you store wine is important, before and after opening.

Wine Enthusiast

The aforementioned guidelines are helpful for any wine novice. Thralls suggests a few general rules to take into consideration with any opened bottle.

1. Invest in a wine preserver. “They work very well for keeping wine after it’s been opened. You can use the cork and push it back in or try [a product such as] Repour, which removes the oxygen from the bottle.” Coravin wine systems are pricier but these high-tech units actually refill the bottle with argon gas, extending the life of red and white wine for up to a month.

2. Store any open wine in the refrigerator. “Or a wine fridge, if you have one,” says Thralls. “This cold storage will slow down any development of the wine, keeping it fresh. The ideal cellar or wine fridge temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit.”

3. Keep wine away from direct sunlight or sources of heat. “This includes above a refrigerator or oven. It will get ‘cooked’ and ruin the aroma and flavor.”

Ideal serving temperatures for wine

The Hyperchiller can help you chill warm wine to a proper serving temperature.

HyperChiller

One could argue that wine temperature depends on personal preference; there are optimal temperatures that somms and wine professionals aim for.

Generally, wine actually tastes better served slightly cool, which applies to whites and reds. This $21 device can chill warm wine (or any other liquid) in seconds.

“The same ideology of experiencing coffees, teas and sparkling waters at different temperatures also applies to wine,” says Thralls, revealing that the more delicate floral aromatics in fine wines can actually be subdued at overly cool temperatures or burn off too quickly when the wine is too warm.

“If you drink affordable wine most of the time, serving it slightly chilled will disguise most ‘off’ aromas,” she says. “A wine above 70 degrees Fahrenheit will start to smell more alcoholic because of increased ethanol evaporation that occurs as the temperature rises.”

Thralls says that this is a good reason to not fill your wine glass up to the brim. “A typical serving of wine is about 5 ounces and a bottle of wine contains just over 25 ounces, so you should get about five glasses of wine per bottle,” she explains. “The extra space in a typical wine glass is designed to hold the aromas when you swirl and smell your wine, so try and save some space.”

Champagne and sparkling wines

Affordable sparkling wines taste best served at 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have a high-quality, more expensive Champagne or sparkling wine, serve at ideal light white wine temperatures, which are slightly warmer.

Light white wines and rosés

Examples of light white wines are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. These wines are best served between 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly cooler than heavier white wines. Rosé wines also taste best and maintain their crispness and acidity at these temperatures.

Heavy whites and light reds

Heavier white wines, such as chardonnay, taste well at a range of temperatures depending on someone’s personal preference, from 48 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit. Oak-aged whites’ fruit tends to taste better when served slightly warmer. Lighter red wines such as Pinot Noir taste better at this cooler end of the spectrum.

Medium-bodied reds

Medium-bodied reds, such as merlot, are best served right around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is also the ideal cellar temperature. You can grab your bottle right out of your cellar and pour a glass. Keep in mind that wines tend to warm up in the glass as well.

Full-bodied and aged reds

Full-bodied reds such as cabernet sauvignon, syrah and zinfandel are best served between 59 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit. But isn’t that too cold for a red wine? The wine will taste much better if cool and, as Thrall mentioned, the glass will warm the wine as well.

No matter how you swirl it, a good wine is one that doesn’t end up down the drain. If you must tap out and savor the remainder of your bottle for future imbibing pleasure, take all of these tips into consideration and you’ll never waste money (and precious alcohol) again. Cheers.

A man in China became the first recipient of a pig lung.

The genetically modified pig organ was transplanted into the 39-year-old, according to an Aug. 26 report by the journal Nature.

The procedure took place last year, performed by researchers at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangshou Medical University in China.

Although the man was brain-dead after experiencing a cerebral hemorrhage, the lung survived for nine days.

The left lung came from a pig with six genomic edits, created by research firm Chengdu Clonorgan Biotechnology in China.

In this first trial, the researchers and doctors aimed to determine how a lung would hold up against the human immune response and the possibility of “hyperacute rejection.”

In the Nature journal article, the researchers reported the success of this recent transplant, noting no signs of rejection or infection within the 216-hour monitoring period.

In the first 24 hours, the team observed lung swelling and tissue damage during the procedure.

On days three and six, the team noticed damage caused by antibodies attacking the organ, but this was reduced by day nine.

The study was then ended at the request of the patient’s family on the ninth day, the report stated.

“Although this study demonstrates the feasibility of pig-to-human lung xenotransplantation, substantial challenges relating to organ rejection and infection remain,” the researchers concluded.

“Further preclinical studies are necessary before clinical translation of this procedure.”

Muhammad Mohiuddin, a surgeon and researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, who led the first pig–heart transplant into a living person in 2022, told Nature that lungs are the “most difficult organ to transplant,” as they’re more prone to being attacked by the immune system.

Death toll rises to six from Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's capital

The death toll rose to six from Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s capital Sanaa, with 86 others wounded, the Houthi-run health ministry said on Monday.

Seven children and three women are among the injured, and 21 are in critical condition, according to the ministry. Houthi officials told Xinhua on Sunday night that the toll could rise, as several of the wounded remain in critical condition.

The strikes, carried out Sunday afternoon, targeted fuel and power stations, the presidential palace complex, and other civilian facilities, according to the Houthis. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed in a statement that an air strike was conducted in Yemen.

The military claimed that the sites included the presidential palace, the Asar and Hizaz power plants, and a fuel storage facility, which they said were used for military purposes. Israeli state-owned Kan TV reported that 14 warplanes took part in the attack, dropping approximately 40 bombs in the area.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, the Houthis accused Israel of “brutal aggression” against civilian facilities. They held both Israel and the United States responsible for what they called a “heinous crime.”

The Houthis vowed to strike back in retaliation.

The strikes occurred two days after the Houthis launched a hypersonic ballistic missile at Tel Aviv, damaging homes with shrapnel but resulting in no fatalities.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, including Sanaa and Hodeidah port, have launched repeated attacks on Israel since November 2023 to support Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has responded with airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas.

“A klijenti objeručke prihvaćaju tu ideju.”

Čak i tradicionalniji brendovi poput Lacanchea uvode potpuno električne štednjake, dajući kupcima mogućnost potpune indukcijske ploče.

Osim usklađenosti s propisima, Rideau kaže da postoje i jasne prednosti u performansama indukcijskih ploča, poput bržeg zagrijavanja i precizne kontrole temperature.

No, općenito, tonovi dragulja i nježni neutralni tonovi u mat završnoj obradi s poliranim mesingom i dalje dominiraju.

Brendovi odgovaraju ozbiljnim inovacijama. BlueStarovi indukcijski štednjaci nude čiste linije, odvažnu boju i mat površinu otpornu na ogrebotine i otiske prstiju. S druge strane, L’Atelier Paris ispunjava zahtjeve klijenata za potpuno personaliziranim elementima, omogućujući “personalizaciju bez presedana u izgledu i funkcionalnosti”, kaže Moraes.

Talijanski brendovi Bertazzoni i Ilve također su glavni igrači, no američki brendovi poput BlueStara i Big Chilla brzo ih sustižu.

Travel nude for ₹46 lakh! Inside ‘world’s biggest nude cruise’ where you can sail the seas without any clothes | Travel

Luxury cruises are no longer just about fine dining, casinos, and infinity pools; they’re now about freedom of choice, quite literally. Bare Necessities, a US-based travel company, has been pioneering clothing-optional cruises since 1990, and its flagship “Big Nude Boat” has become the world’s largest nude cruise. More than just a quirky holiday trend, these voyages are designed to promote body positivity, respect, and community, while giving travellers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Guests aboard the Norwegian Pearl, a 2,300-passenger ship, embark on an 11-day itinerary through the Caribbean. Highlights include the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao), the natural beauty of Jamaica, and two exclusive stops at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island, where nude travellers can enjoy the entire beach without interruption.

Where you can and cannot go nude

While nudity is the central attraction, it isn’t permitted everywhere on the ship. Passengers must remain clothed in the dining hall, at the captain’s reception, and during live performances. Clothing is also mandatory whenever the ship docks at ports. Even at mealtimes, the dress code is specific; bathrobes, lingerie, or fetish outfits are prohibited, with only the buffet area offering slightly relaxed rules.

To maintain the spirit of inclusivity, strict “no-photo zones” are enforced in sensitive areas like pools and dance halls, and any inappropriate behaviour leads to immediate disembarkation without a refund.

“Since 1990, we’ve been working to break down the barriers against social nudity and make clothing-optional vacationing a viable and acceptable option for all. We support the belief that sexuality is not a state of undress, but rather, a state of mind. Social nudity is not a sexual activity, and we strive to dispel the misconception that it is anything but natural and beautiful. We have made strides in the acceptance of nude vacationing, and our wide range of cruise charters are a testament to our success,” their website says.

How much does the ticket cost

A holiday like this comes with a luxury price tag. According to the New York Post, fares can go up to 43 lakh (about USD 52,000) depending on the cabin. Still, thousands of travellers, including many repeat guests, sign up every year. For them, it’s not just about sun and sea but about the once-in-a-lifetime chance to feel completely free.

Bare Necessities is already preparing for future voyages, including the Big Nude Boat 2026, which promises 11 days of “bare-adise,” where the only real choice is whether to snorkel, kayak, zipline, or simply sunbathe without clothes.

‘Best horror movie of all time’ with author’s approval | Films | Entertainment

The ‘best horror movie of all time’ that earned its famous author’s approval is now streaming.

Prime Video has added the film described as ’90 minutes of pure bloody comedic horror gold’ featuring a Downton Abbey star to its library.

The Monkey made its cinema debut earlier this year but has already landed on the streaming platform for home viewing.

It swiftly emerged as one of the year’s most discussed horror offerings, boasting an impressive cast, grisly sequences and wicked humour.

The plot follows twin brothers Hal and Bill who uncover their father’s vintage toy Monkey in the loft, only to be plagued by a string of sinister fatalities.

Desperate to break free from its malevolent influence, they cast aside the Monkey and part company, reports the Mirror.  Yet the killings resume once more.

The screenplay and direction come courtesy of Oz Perkins, who also crafted 2024’s sensation Longlegs, drawing comparisons to the legendary The Silence of the Lambs.

Perkins features in The Monkey as Uncle Chip, whilst Downton Abbey and The Gentlemen favourite Theo James takes on the challenging double role of twins Bill and Hal.

The supporting cast includes Black Orphan’s Tatiana Maslany, Lord of the Rings veteran Elijah Wood and Severance’s Adam Scott, amongst others.

The picture draws inspiration from a short tale penned by bestselling novelist Stephen King, who bestowed his blessing upon the screen version.

Taking to social media, he declared: “You’ve never seen anything like The Monkey. It’s b*****t insane. As someone who has indulged in b*********y from time to time, I say that with admiration.”

The film has been met with rave reviews from critics and fans alike. One critic stated: “The Monkey is pure carnage, comedy, and thesa9 chaos of existence.”

Another reviewer chimed in: “Perkins is not known for comedy, but The Monkey is brutally, laugh-out-loud funny and features some of the most unique deaths ever in a horror movie, and extreme blood and gore. It’s not for the faint of heart.”

A fan simply declared: “The Monkey is 90 minutes of pure bloody, comedic horror gold.”

Another viewer added: “Cult classic. Must see. Steven king short story. Osgood Perkins is becoming one of my favourite directors. This movie is brash, fast and full of fun. If you like final destination and chucky then you’ll love this.”

One more comment read: “This is the best horror movie of all time. Performed with a deeply felt massage and warning of what life is like: Turn the key and find out. And it is not a toy and don’t ever call it that.”

The Monkey is streaming on Prime Video.

The final R35 Nissan GT-R has rolled off the production line at Nissan’s Tochigi plant in Japan, closing out a lengthy 18-year production run for the iconic Japanese super coupe.

After announcing the end of production back in March, Nissan has now produced the final R35 GT-R – a Premium Edition T-Spec, finished in Midnight Purple, for a Japanese buyer.

Production had already wrapped up for other markets, with approximately 48,000 GT-Rs rolling out of the Tochigi factory, 993 of which were delivered in Australia.

The R35 GT-R was axed Down Under all the way back in 2021, as it didn’t meet a then-new Australian Design Rule for side impact safety.

Nissan has also made it clear it’s committed to a future generation of the GT-R, though it has previously said it would be either hybrid or all-electric, so the R35 will likely be the final purely petrol-powered GT-R.

“To the many fans of the GT-R worldwide, I want to tell you this isn’t a goodbye to the GT-R forever, it’s our goal for the GT-R nameplate to one day make a return,” said Nissan president and CEO Ivan Espinosa.

“We understand the expectations are high, the GT-R badge is not something that can be applied to just any vehicle; it is reserved for something truly special and the R35 set the bar high. So, all I can ask is for your patience.

“While we don’t have a precise plan finalised today, the GT-R will evolve and reemerge in the future.”
